Model 1: Surf.
Generating room acoustics from LiDAR scans - a novel reverb plugin.
The first product in development here at Supermodel is the Surf plugin. The plugin allows a user to import a 3D model (.obj format) of a room and hear an estimation of the room's acoustics.

The idea: to allow iPhone users with LiDAR scanners (iPhone 12 pro onwards) to capture the reverb of a space in seconds, with no equipment but their phone, by scanning their space with apps such as Polycam and importing the generated model into our Surf plugin. For users without a recent iPhone, models will also be provided with the plugin, allowing for a vast range of reverbs to be produced.

As any 3D model can be imported, the plugin does not only recreate the reverb of 'real' spaces. The plugin aims to produce accurate estimations of any given virtual space, and even estimate the sound of ancient historical buildings.

Our current goals are to research and implement an improved acoustic modelling algorithm, focusing on improved accuracy while maintaining low computational requirements. We are also working on an improved GUI and UX.
